Our Peanut Butter Treats are FINE!

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

I have been watching the daily updates on the current Sunland Inc. peanut product recall. The peanut butter I use in my dog treats (AND HAVE ON MY BREAKFAST TOAST EVERY MORNING) is NOT part of this recall, nor is it likely to be.  When the FDA made the original announcement I immediately contacted the company that makes my peanut butter and they have assured me that they do not use any ingredients from Sunland, Inc.
Needless to say I was much relieved.

Since this recall is ONLY related to peanuts & almonds supplied to manufacturers by Sunland in Portales, NM, I'm confident enough to keep producing my Peanut Butter Dog Treats- AND eating that same pb on my morning toast.

It looks like Everett's great dogs won't have to go all winter
without Blue Collar Dog Treats after all.
Just look who I found... or who found me... well, actually we found each other.
A new and unique store has just opened in Everett!
Its called..... wait for it...
and they are quick to tell you
"It's not that we don't like cats... it's just that we LOVE dogs!"
Oh NCA, where have you been all my life???

I'd been hearing good things about Liam Cole's new business and he'd been hearing good things about Bev B's popular treats and so...after a very brief courtship, No Cats Allowed and Blue Collar Dog Treats are announcing their collaboration to make great dog treats available to Everett's dog community all year. No more wishing and waiting for the Farmers Market to open.
Just stop by 3231 Broadway, suite D and load up!
They're open 11 AM - 6 PM, Tuesday through Saturday
Closed Sunday and Monday.

We dropped off a few things
That's Liam, owner of NO CATS ALLOWED, walking behind my display.

You'll find so many unique dog goodies in this store. It is NOT PetSmart, PetCo, a big box pet supply store- you'll not find aisle after aisle of plastic dog bowls or imported chew monkeys with belly squeakers.
The items here are unique and created by local artisans and artists.
Some are crafted using up-cycled materials and all are handmade.

Look for the big OPEN sign- we LOVE it.

a quick peek at a few items in the store....
(sorry, my phone photos don't do them justice)

 hand knotted leashes
hand knotted chew/tug toys
pins, pendants, magnets
remembrance plaques, hand turned wooden interment urns

No Cats Allowed is located at 3231 Broadway in Everett...
on the east side of the street.
If you pass through the intersection at 33rd- you've gone too far!

and for my Everett Farmers Market customers- my apologies..
my hand outs included the wrong area code.
The phone number is 206-498-3112.

I hope you'll continue to shop locally and support local artisans and artists through the winter.

See you next year, Everett Farmers Market

Thank you! Thank You Very Much!
Bev B and her Blue Collar Dog Treats have left the building.
What a fun season this has been in Everett! Nineteen Sundays of dogs, dog lovers and beautiful weather. We're used to the first two but the great weather was.... well.... not the usual for Western WA.
There were only two drizzly days and those were the only two Sundays I missed.. not by plan but by coincidence... Gotta love that!

the Clumber Spaniels, Benson & his mom, Abbey

Charlie- the clever trickster- and the first dog in seven years to "anoint" my tablecloth-
but I love him anyway!

Mas- who had some serious surgery this summer and is doing just fine.

and my favorite visitor of the season??
ROWAN... my oldest great granddaughter

It was a grand season and I'm already wishing for June 2013.
You're the GREATEST!

Find some joy!

A good thought to start a busy week.....

NEVER forget....

Monday, May 28, 2012

On this Memorial Day, as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we should also remember our MWDs-- Military Working Dogs.

This article The Dogs Of War... says it much better than I can.

My own personal MEMORIAL DAY

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Each Memorial Day, we  pause to remember those who have given their lives to protect and defend our country.

It has an even deeper, more personal meaning for me.

On Memorial Day weekend, 47 years ago, I met Pat Babarovich, the man I would soon marry.

Om Memorial Day weekend 45 years ago Pat came home to us, after a year in Vietnam.

On Memorial Day weekend, 5 years ago, Pat passed away.

So this weekend continues as a bittersweet milestone for me....
...the wonderful memories....the ache of missing him so much....

...but more than anything with eternal gratitude,
that with all the people in the world,
we found each other.

Skagit River Produce

Saturday, May 26, 2012

I've recently expanded my wholesale end of the business. There are so many great local stores and produce places that are totally dog friendly. Their customers have been happy to find locally made healthy dog treats so I am keeping busy baking and delivering.

Yesterday I delivered to Skagit River Produce.

This isn't your ordinary country road produce stand. It's a huge pole building with an outdoor, screened seating area. Owned and operated by Tory Fidler and Angie O'Hare, Skagit River Produce specializes in bringing their customers fresh, local foods : produce, meat, seafood, dairy, honey, fruit, dips and the wonderful wares of local craftsmen. Their deli is THE place to have lunch or a quick snack- featuring fresh and fabulous salads, soups, sandwiches and ohhh.. the ice cream cones!

and they also have some pretty great dog treats too.

Locals can find "what's fresh" and directions at their

Do yourself a favor- Stop in and stay a while.

Spring Fling was FUN !

Sunday, May 13, 2012

What a FUN DAY we had in Ferndale on Saturday. The weather was wonderful so lots of folks came out with their furry friends.

I left home at 6:30 AM. <yawn>  It's an hour drive to Ferndale and since I set up everything by myself, I need plenty of time to get the booth up and presentable for the 10 AM opening.

I wish I'd had more time to just take photos. SO many gorgeous dogs, so little time to spend  with the camera.

This fellow was so polite. He just walked up to the sample table and looked at me expectantly.

After he read the ingredients labels he decided everything looked healthy and yummy.
and naturally my camera batteries died so I missed the shot of him scarfing down the samples.

This is Tyler- getting Ava ready to show us the great trick he taught her.

If I were a better photographer, Id have captured the shot of Ava with her head between her paws, saying her prayers before, accepting a treat. Im not sure who impressed me more- Ava or Tyler. I think this clever young man is going to be the next Dog Whisperer. THANKS Tyler for sharing Ava's tricks with us. Wish I'd gotten a better shot of it but you are really something!

I knew furry friends loved my treats but it was a delight to discover feathered friends do too.
The bird lady ( she has 28 birds at home) was wearing a black sweatshirt that was instantly covered with treat crumbs. Look at that claw wrapped around the treat!

Crumbs were flying in a 2 foot circle all around this beautiful guy. It was hilarious.

THANKS to Hot Dogz and Pooch Palace & Kitty Kastle for inviting us to this event. It was SO much fun. We met some great new friends- 2 legged, 4 legged and feathered. Couldn't have asked for a better day.

Sunday, May 6, 2012

and we're celebrating by joining the great folks at Pooch Palace and Kitty Kastle
for a fun SPRING FLING!

about 1000 treats- and will fill four more totes when finished baking

I've got my head in the oven, working on my treat-baking marathon so there will be plenty of FRESH treats for all those Whatcom county dogs. I'll have baked and packaged over 5000 treats when I'm done. It's a labor of love so it really isn't such a chore.

This is my first appearance at the Pet Spring Fling Expo so I'm really looking forward to meeting all the new vendors, sponsors and of course, the NEW DOGS.

Will post more soon but now... the oven is calling my name.........
